چکیده

Raoultella terrigena (previously known as Klebsiella terrigena) is a rarely encountered gram-negative bacterium and mainly reported as aquatic and soil organism. However, in 2007 the first human infection caused by this organism was reported in a 45-year-old patient who developed endocarditis due to R. terrigena post liver transplant. No other case reports of infections caused by this organism have been published, and the clinical spectrum of diseases caused by this organism is unknown. The correct identification of R. terrigena is not easily accomplished in most clinical microbiology laboratories, and isolates can be easily misidentified as Klebsiella pneumoniae or other Klebsiella species. We describe a patient with sepsis with a primary infection by R. terrigena.

Identification of Raoultella terrigena as a Rare Causative Agent of Subungual Abscess Based on 16S rRNA and Housekeeping Gene Sequencing

A 63-year-old-man was admitted to our hospital with severe subungual abscess. Bacteria were isolated from pus samples, and an inconsistent identification was shown by VITEK 2 system and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry as Raoultella planticola and Raoultella terrigena, respectively. Molecular identification by 16S rRNA sequencing suggested that the isolate is R. terrigena, and this was further demon...

The first case of Raoultella terrigena infection in an infant.

Raoultella terrigena, formerly known as Klebsiella terrigena is Gram-negative, non-motile, facultative anaerobic, encapsulated bacilli and is a very rare cause of infections in humans. Until now, only two cases of actual clinical infection caused by R. terrigena were reported in adults. This report is the first case of neonatal infection with this microorganism, which was isolated from the urin...

Draft Genome Sequence of Raoultella terrigena R1Gly, a Diazotrophic Endophyte

Raoultella terrigena R1Gly is a diazotrophic endophyte isolated from surface-sterilized roots of Nicotiana tabacum. The whole-genome sequence was obtained to investigate the endophytic characteristics of this organism at the genetic level, as well as to compare this strain with its close relatives. To our knowledge, this is the first genome obtained from the Raoultella terrigena species and onl...

Isolation and Identification of a New Tetrodotoxin-Producing Bacterial Species, Raoultella terrigena, from Hong Kong Marine Puffer Fish Takifugu niphobles

Puffer fish, Takifugu niphobles, collected from the Hong Kong coastal waters were screened for tetrodotoxin-producing bacteria. A Gram-negative, non-acid-fast, non-sporing and rod shaped bacterial strain (designated as gutB01) was isolated from the intestine of the puffer fish and was shown to produce tetrodotoxin (TTX). Based on the Microbial Identification (MIDI) and 16S-23S rDNA internal tra...

Necrotizing fasciitis involving the chest and abdominal wall caused by Raoultella planticola

BACKGROUND Raoultella planticola was originally considered to be a member of environmental Klebsiella. The clinical significance of R. planticola is still not well known. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the first case of necrotizing fasciitis involving the chest and abdominal wall caused by R. planticola. The identity of the organism was confirmed using 16S rRNA sequencing. The patient was succ...
